Today's topic is blanket corners.
I have been working on a blanket for a close friend. When I started the project I tried using circular knitting needles and wanted to create a ribbed look on all edges with a classic stockinette stitch in the center. I wanted to create my own pattern and actually drew it out on a piece of paper. I'll recreate the image of the top left corner below...
If an X is a knit stitch and an O is a purl stitch then I figured the ribbing at the bottom of the blanket would look like this:
and the ribbing on the side would look like this:
So, if we combined the two, here is the pattern you would get!
Makes sense right? One problem. When you knit you have a right side and a wrong side, so if you want the corner to look like the image above, you actually have to flip the pattern on the wrong side rows. So a couple rows of ribbing on the bottom and sides would look like this:
Bottom Rib: Side Rib:
XOXOXOXOXO XXXXXXXXXX OXOXOXOXOX XXXXXXXXXX
And the full pattern would look like this:
When you actually knit this pattern it looks like a lovely ribbed corner and looks much better than my first two attempts.
If you are new to knitting and creating patterns (like me!) don't forget to flip the "WS' roads to get the look you want! Feel free to comment below with questions or ideas and I look forward to writing to you again soon!
Sincerely,
Elizabeth
