Making a Baby Blanket

Today I wanted to share with you my favorite baby blanket pattern! This pattern is simple; All you need to know how to knit and purl. That being said, this pattern is one of my favorite because of how intricate it looks!

Using a basket weave knit as inspiration, this blanket alternates between knit squares and purl squares for a beautiful finishing effect.

For this project I used "Wool-Ease Thick & Quick Yarn" and would definitely recommend this brand (not an advertisement but here is a link to this type of yarn if you are interested)! If you choose to pick a different yarn just make sure it is super bulky. You can do this pattern with smaller yarns, but it will take much longer and have a different final thickness that I find inferior to the super bulky yarn.

The pattern for this blanket is simple:

Cast on 76 stitches.

Knit back to the starting stitch.

Knitting 3 times at the beginning/end of each row, begin alternating between 10 purl stitches and 10 knit stitches. (K3, P10, K10, P10, K10, P10, K10, P10, K3).

For the next row, knitting 3 times at the beginning/end of each row, begin alternating between 10 knit stitches and 10 purl stitches. (K3, K10, P10, K10, P10, K10, P10, K10, K3). Each stitch on this row should match up with the stitches from the previous row. Once you have a few rows knitted, you should be able to see the pattern without having to count!

Continue alternating between these two rows until you have completed 14 rows, then switch to create the boxes as shown below!

This pattern is quick, simple, and perfect for a sweet little newborn. I hope you are able to use this pattern and make gifts for the little ones you love!

Sincerely,

Elizabeth
