Next Steps: Seed Stitch Scarf

Hello friends,

I love knitting scarves. Anyone can knit one as long as they have the yarn and the time. Last week I posted a basic garter stitch scarf. This week I wanted to post a slightly more advanced pattern that gives off a beautiful bumpy look!

A bit of history... depending where you live this stitch has different names! In America we call it a seed stitch but in the UK, Australia, and other countries this stitch is called the moss stitch. As such the scarf I knitted above is a beautiful green with blue influences. This pattern is also reversible, so both sides have the same textured look.

Seed Stitch Scarf Pattern

For this pattern I used size 11 knitting needles (8mm) and super bulky yarn (here's a link).

Begin by casting on 11 stitches. If modifying this pattern be sure to cast on an odd number of stitches to make the process a bit easier.

Next, alternate between a knit and purl to the end of each row. Each row must start with a knit stitch, so written out the pattern looks like this: KPKPKPKPKPK. When you flip the scarf make sure to mirror this pattern (KPKPKPKPKPK) so that the knit stitches match with the knit stitches and the purls matches with the purls.

Knit to your desired length (I used a little under two skeins).

Have you recently completed a seed stitch project? If so, comment a picture or tell your story below!

Happy Monday and catch you next time,

Elizabeth
